My neighbor's daughter hung herself
by frozen one inwhen i got home from work tonight i was told my neighbor's daughter had commited suicide.
the daughter lived several hours from here and i had only met her a couple of times over the years, so i didn't know her at all really.
from what i understand the daughter had struggled with substance abuse problems for a long time.

I really feel for those who remain and probably can't help but feel guilty, somehow.
Not to trivialize the subject in the least but hanging seems to be more man's way to commit suicide than woman's.

Accents and Dialects
by snowbird inso as not to further the "head cheese thread," i'm starting this one because of something narkissos mentioned about a fricative consonant.. it's like an f or s, produced by forcing air through our teeth.. that got me to thinking about the test the gileadites gave to the ephraimites in judges 12.. judges12: 5 -6 gilead captured the fords of the jordan at the crossing to ephraim.
if an ephraimite fugitive said, "let me cross," the men of gilead would ask, "are you an ephraimite?
'" but he would always say, "sibboleth"he couldn't say it right.

I'm not familiar with the way immigrant populations have impressed the English language but in the suburbs (banlieues) of the large french cities, the arabic North African population has incredibly imposed its twang to the popular working (or unemployed...) class language. One has to view a film made as late as in the early sixties to realise how popular language has evolved over a few decades.

Not having a paradise earth in the future makes me sad - What about you?
by BonaFide inyes, i am enjoying realizing the truth about the truth.. but there is another side to it.
the world as we know it didn't seem to me to be the way that god intended it to be.
i know i was brainwashed, but it felt good believing that all the bad things would be changed.

fromage derives (through metathesis, form -> from) from (!) late Latin formaticum
Funny, same phenomenon in french caribbean Creole language, where they tend to say froumi for fourmi (ant). Which shows that languages are like water, they are lazy and follow in their course the path of lesser resistance and effort.
Lazy ? wait, not all of them. In a remote french province, Auvergne as they call it, an industrious tribe has resisted fromage for centuries and keeps, somewhat stubbornly, on making FOURME, like fourme d'Ambert, a cylinder shaped blue cheese.

CoCo,
by any chance, do you live in California ? I read lately that your cerebral governor wants to replace text books in schools with e-books, to reduce state expenses. IMO, that tells a lot about the emphasis Terminator puts on culture and education.

Copy of an old 2007 post on Lady Lee's thread, too lazy to type it again.
To me, paradise earth is appealing because it's the only notion I can grasp, I haven't got the faintest idea of what life would be like in heavenly spheres. It is only too obvious that man is meant for the earth and the latter for man, how can we possibly lose sight of that ? Another evidence (sorry if we find the idea in the WT literature) is that man, elaborate as he is, deserves more than a mere 80 year passage on earth, otherwise what a waste of resources, it just doesn't make sense.
Granted, notions of limited earth and eternal life don't tally and with our limited current abilities and short sighted outlook we find it difficult to imagine we could live forever without being bored, but hasn't jehovah assured us that he will satisfy the desire of every living being ? Christians, of whatever denomination they are, can't just shove aside this promise. By the way, wouldn't the bore problem be the same in heaven ? So I gather that the altenative is either paradise earth or nothing.
I'm not sure that many JWs would consider living under a WTlike iron rule during eternity as real paradise, but Jah's promise is beyond WT promise and paradise must mean paradise. A sensible guy was saying once that the amount of knowledge between the most learnt man and the total ignorant is nought as compared with all that we don't know. Has anyone a proposal that will offer a better prospect than an absurd life ?

We're not going to let this thread die like that, Sylvia, shall we ?
I suggest we leave pâté de tête and pied de veau cool down for a while and turn to these off topic galatians
On a side note, the Gauls are the descendants of the Galatians, aren't they?
If I remember well what I read once (maybe in the aid book), it was the way around. A gang of pugnacious Gauls, always looking for a good war to wage, went to Anatolia to serve a certain king as mercenaries in the area of nowadays Ankara. They settled there and the province became called as Galatia. They must have brought their strife prone spirit along with them since, as you said, Paul calls them foolish and urges them to stop quibbling, being vainglorious and provoking one another. We wonder why Sarko doesn't want them in the EU, they would feel at home in France.

Yes, I suppose that potted meat is similar, also like Tête de veau (veal's head). The latter (they say tête de veau Ravigote, Former french president Jacques Chirac's favorite dish) and fromage de tête can be served with vinaigrette and shallot, either warm or cold. Don't know about potted meat.
